About the Greenhouse

At The Marsh Foundation, our greenhouse serves as a dynamic space where youth in the Independent Living program engage in the care of vibrant flowers and nutritious plants. Through this hands-on experience, they learn valuable skills such as land stewardship, plant care, and the importance of healthy food. As they tend to the greenhouse, youth also develop essential job skills that will serve them well in the future. This space is where youth not only nurture growth in the garden but also build confidence, responsibility, and a deeper connection to the world around them.

About the Garden

About the Garden

The garden crew grows fresh vegetables and offers starter planters at select events, providing the community an opportunity to take home a piece of the greenhouse’s harvest. The focus is on sustainable and organic growing methods, teaching youth the importance of building healthy soil to cultivate nutritious food. Through their work, youth learn to grow in harmony with nature, understanding the vital connection between healthy soil, healthy food, and healthy people. On-site composting is an essential part of this process, demonstrating the natural cycle of nourishing the earth to sustain life.

A variety of vegetables, fruit, herbs, and flowers are grown at The Marsh.

About the Garden Crew

Youth in The Marsh Foundation’s Independent Living Group, all 15 ½ years or older, make up the garden crew. This experience provides them with the chance to develop essential skills for a successful adult life. The greenhouse offers a space for them to interact with both peers and adults, while honing valuable job skills and learning the fundamentals of growing healthy food. It’s an opportunity for personal growth, teamwork, and hands-on learning that prepares them for the future.
