Individual Counseling
Individual counseling addresses the specific mental health needs of the client which includes appropriate diagnosis and treatment of such. This process includes
Completion of an initial assessment
Development of and Individualized Service Plan (ISP) with the client' s input
Projection of the length of treatment
Objective measurement of outcomes every 90 days
The population benefiting from this service includes behaviorally handicapped and emotionally disturbed children and adolescents diagnosed with, but not necessarily limited to, childhood mental disorders. Individual counseling services are typically delivered Monday through Friday during a normal 8-hour day.
Family Counseling
Family Counseling addresses the psychological and emotional needs of the family as a whole.
A systems approach is utilized in the evaluating of dysfunctional relationships within the family and determining appropriate interventions to assist members in becoming an emotionally healthy functioning unit. This process may include the examination of individual problems in family members as well as dyadic and triangular relational problems within the family of origin and extended family.
An initial assessment, the development of and ISP with family members' input, the projection of the length of treatment, an the objective measurement of outcomes every 90 days as a result of treatment are essential components of family counseling. Families of behaviorally handicapped and emotionally disturbed children and adolescents diagnosed with, but not necessarily limited to, childhood mental disorders benefit from this service.
Family counseling services are typically delivered Monday through Friday during a normal 8-hour working day, but may occur Saturday and Sunday to accommodate family members' schedules.
Group Counseling
Group counseling focuses upon common issues faced by behaviorally handicapped and emotionally disturbed children and adolescents. A counseling group, comprised of 6 to 10 age mates either of the same or mixed gender, typically provides members with accurate information, offers mutual support and understanding among peers, fosters healthy inter- and intra-personal interaction, and assists members in the development of appropriate coping techniques for life challenges. Groups are designed for a targeted population with specific problems and are generally of a time-limited nature. Individual screenings are conducted to determine suitability for group involvement, goals emerge and are determined throughout the group process for individual members, and an outcome measure is administered after each group session. Counseling groups meet on a weekly basis for a 90-minute session, and usually function as an adjunct service to individual and family counseling.
In-Home Services
In-Home services are provided as an adjunct intervention to assist families in addressing environmental, and inter-and intra-personal factors which create and sustain conflicting issues within the family. The foundational philosophy of home-based services is one of proactive intervention and prevention in "fixing" the whole rather than just a part of a dysfunctional system. Services are provided by a trained individual under supervision of a licensed mental health professional, and consist of the worker entering the home on a pre-scheduled, pre-determined number of hours per week. In-Home services are normally provided under a separate contractual agreement with the family and/or agency requesting such service.
